Cindy Chavez Swenson

Cindy is a first-generation academic and child of Mexican immigrants from Los Banos, CA. Her research focuses on urban education and medical humanities. She holds a doctorate from USC, a graduate degree from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and a double-MA in English from Saint Louis University's Madrid Campus. As a community college transfer student, she earned her BA in modern literature and journalism from UC Santa Cruz. Cindy has taught in higher education since 2006 and has supported Central Valley Scholars for five years. She is the founder of R.O.S.C.A. Money Circle, a bootstrapped startup helping the Latine community organize tandas and cundinas. The startup publishes the Metiche newsletter, educating the community on leveraging tandas to build wealth and community while sharing her journey as one of few Latina founders in fintech: https://www.roscamoneycircle.com/
